The search is on for the next So You Think You Can Dance nation’s favorite dancer. Dance lovers and fans of the reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance is back with a stomping sweet sixteen acts. The South Africa’s version of So You Think You Can Dance is sure to be mind blowing anticipation boogie competition. In the past three weeks S.A saw the provincial elimination and send off took place live on SABC1. The top sweet sixteen dancers will be up against: Ashley Beyers, Bonwa Mbontsi, Carl Davids, Cleo Cape Notcutt, Darren Hammond , Gerbrandt (Gerrie) Jeanette, Boipelo Maphafo, Jade John (JJ) Heuvel, Kabelo (KayB) Mahlala, Kai Pretorius, Lulu Mlangeni, Nkateko (Takkies) Maswanganye, Shelley Nicole Christians, Snenhlanhla Mbatha, Tumie Letsoenyo, Xolani Mthabela. Each contestant has a different background ranging from professional to street hip hop dance.
Last Saturday viewers witnessed the announcement of the Top Sixteen dancers; each dancer was surprised with a partner and guest choreographer to present in front of the judges and million viewers. Given unfamiliar dance routine and getting out of the box most dancers were struggling to cope until last minute. The hot and sizzling Sade Gilibert hosted the show. This year’s judges are Didi Moses, the unbreakable David Matamela and head judge by Harrold Van Burren. Carl Davids and 19 year old Kai Pretorius- the match made from heaven became judge’s favorite as they step away on the contemporary choreographed by Kelsey Middleton. Carl the hip hop dancer, who is new in the contemporary, gave it all. The sensitive and love story told by the two- took the breath away as they interpreted song by Leona Lewis. Both dancers knew what they were doing and stole judge’s heart. “Carl lifted her light as the feather amazing easy smooth and controls the partner.” says Harrold Van Burren, one of the judges. The evening of heartbeat glitz with stomping from township kwela, sounds house beats to the rhythmic British pop sounds. Passionate dance moves kept the audience on their feet with shout and screaming in support of the nation’s best dancers.
The winner will walk away 2500 000 Zar. Voted by the nation, each Wednesday night live on SABC 1 results will be announced, two dancers will go home. Hopes and dreams of dancers will be decided by the votes and based on the dancers triumphant Salsa, hip hopping and hoping Samba, krump and jazz crossing afro fusion and Ballet toe footsteps. South Africa’s queen of dancehall Thembi Seete will feature with her new single “Shake it up” on spring day’s non elimination broadcast. The elimination process starts on next week after spring day. Each episode will feature special appearance judges. Keep watching SABC1 every Saturday afternoon for the cutting down of contestants, 16 October the winner takes it all. The Results Shows are at 7pm on Wednesdays.
