A 17-member observer mission of the Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will be deployed across the country to monitor the August 4 constitution referendum.
The mission to be deployed from various parts of the country from Tuesday is currently holding consultations with various stakeholders and will liaise closely with other missions such as the African Union, European Commission and the United Nations.
The Head of the Mission is Mahboub Maalim, IGAD Executive Secretary.
Meanwhile, the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) on Sunday assured that it has everything in place for Wednesday’s vote.
The commission allayed fears of rigging saying that results will be relayed electronically from each and every polling station simultaneously to the various constituency tallying centers and to the National Tallying Center.
The long road to the campaign period officially ends on Monday after which the official results on whether Kenyans have adopted or rejected the draft constitution will be expected to be announced by Thursday August 5.
